On a recent trip to Scotland, my first to the very far northwest of the country, into the wilderness and isolation, I have discovered a few rivals to my favourite Scottish beach.
The beach at Oldshoremore is a stunning expanse of flat white sands, and if you visit, it may be likely you’ll have the place to yourself. You have to pinch yourself to remember you’re still in Scotland.
We discovered Oldshoremore completely by chance; the beach is fairly accessible by a short walk from a car park at the end of a winding single track road. We almost missed this amazing location, driving past on our way up to Sandwood Bay further north.
I’m glad we didn’t.
